A NOTE FROM MEN’S GROUP PRESIDENT Ray Forsthoffer A great gathering of the Cordillera Men’s group was held at Herman Trevino’s home on November 21st. Herman furnished Mama Rosa tamales, brisket, beans and fixins. It was a great meal for the 62 men who were able to attend during this Thanksgiving week. Our guest speaker was Dr. Ian Thompson, the director of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center located in San Antonio. Dr. Thompson is internationally recognized as an expert on prostate, liver, kidney and & testicular cancer. His talk on prostate cancer could not have been directed at a more appropriate group, a bunch of Cordillera middle age or better men. The two points that he reinforced were to 1) Shrink the prostate and 2) Don’t take Vitamin E. Of course your personal doctor needs to give you this advice but Dr. Thompson explained why, in a very easy to understand manner. Both of these points lead to a more accurate PSA test result and subsequently to less invasive procedures. The winners of the second month’s College Football Pigskin Pick ‘ems Pool were announced. Jack Donner was first with a 15-1 record and Tom Iwanski was second with a 14-2 record. December’s Men’s group activity is to be sponsors of the Christmas party held at the Cordillera Club house on December 11th. Tickets are still available by contacting John Kuhlman or dropping off your $90 per couple to the receptionist at the visitor’s center. Look forward to seeing you then or at the January gathering at Shawnie Malone’s home on January 16th. Our speaker will be State Representative Doug Miller. Hurry up and sign up for the Christmas party by December 2nd. Have a great holiday season, wonderful New Year and see you in January. See you soon, Ray REMEMBER, THE MEN’S GROUP MEETS THE THIRD MONDAY OF THE MONTH.
